Texas Instruments Invests in VoIP Equipment Company
Texas Instruments,
one of the largest semiconductor companies in the world, with substantial operations in the cellular phone, DSP, display technology,
analog and RFID markets, has invested in a Voice over IP (VoIP) equipment manufacturer, General Bandwidth.
General Bandwidth obtained
$18 million in the funding round, which also included investments from Oak Investment Partners, the lead in the round, as well as Sevin Rosen, Venrock Associates,
Invesco, Thomas Weisel Capital Partners, Trellis Partners, Star Ventures, Wheatley Partners, HLM, Protostar, Granite Global
and Siemens Venture Capital.
General Bandwidth offers
VoIP gateways and related products. The company has over 150 media gateway switches deployed for 40 service providers. The
company emphasized that the VoIP equipment market is expected to reach over $9 billion in sales by 2009.
