Corporate headquarters is located in Belgium. R&D centers are in Belgium,
France, Germany, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Ukraine. Probe and test facilities are located in Belgium, Germany, Switzerland
and Bulgaria. Melexis also maintains a worldwide applications support network.
Melexis achieved its revenue growth in 2003 as a result of its concentration
in the automotive market - specifically automotive safety applications. There are numerous new applications in the automotive
industry that have been made possible with inexpensive micromachine chip technology, which Melexis has. These applications
include indoor cabin pollution monitoring, night vision and weather vision infrared windshields, automatic tire pressure monitoring
(which has been legislated as mandatory in several countries), gyroscopes for electronic stability control (which has been
mandated for automobiles in several European countries) and many others too numerous to list for this report. Melexis has
been focusing on chips for new automobile cable standards. The cable harness, which connects the electronic components together
in the car, has been a major issue with automotive companies for years. There
may also be applications for Melexis to apply to airplanes and other transportation vehicles.
Melexis N/V at the end of its 2003 year had over 70 patents filed. This
is up considerable from the 41 applications it had at the end of its 2002 year. In the United States patent office, as of
September 2004, it had 18 patents published. The 2004 patents pertain to Infrared Sensor technology, an important technology
related to micromachines.
