Organization Type: Research, Technology Transfer

Region: USA, Southwest

Sandia National Laboratories is a government research organization that makes available advanced integrated circuit and a wide variety of other and related technology to industry. This includes a wide range of in-house design and research facilities.

The organization has been involved with process technologies such as micromachined nanostructures, superconductive and ferroelectrics. Other research areas have included sensors, optoelectronics, heterojunction, super lattice and quantum well materials.

A major area of long term research has been in the area of micromachines. The organization presently has an in-house micromachine wafer fabrication facility for that purpose.  Sandia has been in the micromachine research area since 1995. In 1995, Sandia developed surface-microcmachined polysilicon filaments for catalytic gas sensor, flow sensors and thermal conductivity pressure gages.

Sandia National Laboratories and Radiant Technology entered into a three year agreement in 1993 for the development of nonvolatile memory technology to combine thin film and ferroelectric process technology. Conductus, AT&T and Sandia were in 1993 developing a 32-Bit superconductive memory chip.
