The Wi-fi or 802.11 market has become increasingly crowded. As well, emerging technologies such as WiMAX, UWB and Zigbee
are seen as potential alternatives to the short range wireless network communications problem.
WiFi is starting to converge with VoIP technology. Several companies have integrated VoIP technology with WiFi chips.
Calypso Wireless, the feature company in White, has developed seamless Wifi to cellular technology. This permits a cellular
phone to switch to a WiFi network transparently (without user intervention). Calypso has a patent which relates to the technology.
Calypso has made a point to notify the major microprocessor and cellular processor integrated circuit companies of its Wi-Fi
to Cellular seamless switch technology.
