In developing countries phones are available, however often at the
cost of a long trip to a far away village or town. In an attempt to solve the phone and internet problem of these rural regions,
Inveneo has developed a VoIP phone that can be directly powered with either a solar panel or bicycle.
The Linux PC driven VoIP system, now, with the assistance of international
relief organizations, is being installed in distant African villages, which don’t have electricity or phone service.
As part of the VoIPcycle solution, a network of transmitters and receivers is used to allow the VoIPcycle to connect
to the nearest PSTN connection for both telephone and Internet connection. A special bicycle frame has been designed to connect
to a battery, which powers the Linux PC, which in turn drives the VoIP, which sends the communications signal out of the antenna.
