Aonex Awarded SBIR Grant to
Further Enable Nanosolar Technology
Arrowhead Research Corporation (NASDAQ:ARWR) through its majority-owned
subsidiary, Aonex Technologies, Inc, has been awarded a Phase I SBIR grant for the development of a new process for the development
of more efficient solar cells. Implying that the new process would be based on nanotechnology was R. Bruce Stewart, the President
of Arrowhead, "New nano-enabled energy technologies are gaining increased attention from both industry and government. We
are pleased that Aonex has been awarded an SBIR grant to support this particular application of its technology. A key component
of Arrowhead's strategy is to leverage public sector funding to further our technologies while keeping our costs down." The
company also indicated that the process uses a lighter weight substrate in order to enhance efficiency and lower cost.
Aonex is now commercializing a proprietary process for fabricating
semiconductor nanomaterials as well as applying its technology to solar cells and optoelectronics. The company has as a goal
to integrate optical, logic and amplifiers all on one substrate.
The Phase I grant is valued at $100,000. The project, if successful,
could result in a Phase II grant of up to $750,000.
