Power Efficiency Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: PEFF), a company that offers energy-saving
motor controllers for alternating current induction motors, announced that it has sold and installed its EcoStart controllers
in escalators and elevators at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SeaTac).
Douglas Holbrook, Manager of Utilities and Business Management, Port of Seattle, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport,
reported a 30 percent energy saving, "We installed the EcoStart(R) controllers, about three years ago. We are very happy with
the product, which requires very little maintenance, plus it saves the airport approximately 30% on energy use." SeaTac also
estimated that it saves 54,000 kWh every month.
Power Efficiency reported that as a result of the success at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the Anchorage International
Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airports also installed controllers. The company indicated that it is working with
market leaders in the elevator and escalator industry to identify new opportunities in the airport market.
Steven Strasser, CEO of Power Efficiency Corporation, noted that besides the 35 percent savings its kits offer, the
kits can also extend motor and equipment life. Fundamental to the energy savings is the fact that kits minimize the need to
use full power for escalator and elevator applications. The motor controller instead allocates power according to load, which
also minimizes motor temperature and motor stress.
