Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB) (NYSE:ENB), Suncor Energy Products Inc. and EHN Wind Power Canada Inc.
have jointed forces to build a 30-megawatt wind power plant in Alberta, Canada, called the Chin Chute project. The planned
facility is expected to cost $60 million Canadian dollars. The new wind facility is expected to include twenty 1.5 megawatt
wind turbines, which are planned to be operated by EHN, a subsidiary of Spanish ACCIONA Group.
The facility is expected to power 14,000 Alberta homes. Carbon dioxide emissions that will
be spared the atmosphere as a result of the facility are estimated at 88,000 tons per year, or the equivalent of removing
13,000 vehicles off the road – about the same number of homes powered by the facility. The facility, subject to regulatory
approvals, has a construction date set for September 2005 and an on-line date sometime late in the year 2006.
Also as part of the plan, Enbridge will pay for one-third of the cost for a one-third interest.
