Dana’s Intelligent Cooling Pump Promises 5% Fuel Savings
At Engine Expo 2005, to be held in Stuttgart,
expect Dana Corporation (NYSE:DCN) to introduce its family of
advanced Intelligent Cooling pumps. The family, which consists of three brushless direct-current electric coolant pumps, have
been designed for both today's automobile engines as well as to meet the cooling needs of hybrid and fuel cell vehicles. With
built-in precision temperature control, the pumps can be used for charge-air circuit cooling, standard engine cooling, and
hybrid-vehicle powertrain cooling.
In regards to the benefits of the technology, the
company stated, "Because the new pumps enable accurate temperature control, engines warm faster, which, among other benefits,
reduces harmful emissions during the critical cold-start cycle. Accurate thermal control can also improve fuel efficiency
by up to 5 percent and improve the comfort of vehicle occupants as a result of faster cabin warm-up."
In order to ensure
the Intelligent Cooling products work with all types of vehicles, both today's and tomorrow's. the pumps work with voltages
from 9 volts to 440 volts.
