Keronite Ltd., a company based in Cambridge England, has recently reported on a new process that could significantly reduce greenhouse gases and pollutants from the world's best friend and worst enemy, the automobile. The company's strategy to solve the world's energy and pollution problems has been to develop lighter metals to build automobiles and other types of vehicles. Keronite to prove its point sites U.S. Government sources, which indicate for every 10 percent reduction in vehicle weight results in a 7 percent reduction in fuel consumption and emissions. Keronite's surface treatment technology allows for steel to be replaced with magnesium and aluminum alloys.
The new alloy process, besides weight reduction, offers an environmentally safe method to make low-weight steel. The company reports that the process generates no hazardous waste.

The company also notes several other applications and benefits of the Keronite ceramic process. One important benefit is that engine performance is improved. This is because the temperature of aluminum pistons is reduced 30 degrees Centigrade. Keronite ceramic technology can also be used for mobile phone cases, PDAs, laptops and aluminum frying pans. The technology is wear and corrosion resistant.
