$120 Million Melancthon Grey Wind Project Begins
 
Canadian Hydro Developers, Inc. (TSX:KHD) has begun the construction of its $120 million Melancthon Grey Wind Project in Southern Ontario. The wind facility is to include 45 General Electric wind turbines rated at 1.5 megawatts for a total electrical capacity of 67.5 megawatts. The facility, to be completed in early 2006, will have the capacity to power 20,000 homes per year.
 
Canadian Hydro operates 17 renewable energy power plants with a total capacity of 162 megawatts. The company’s renewable energy sources are based on wind, water and biomass.

Greenwind Power Corp. USA (PINK SHEETS:GWDP) and Greenwind Power Corp. have entered into a funding agreement with Asset Logics WindDynamics Inc. (AWLD) The agreement relates to $775,000 of funding for the development of wind energy projects in Alberta, Canada. As well, AWLD has also agreed to help obtain $40 million for the further development of Greenwind’s wind energy projects. Greenwind is presently involved in wind energy projects that have the potential to produce 600 megawatts of wind energy.

FPL Energy to Begin Construction of North Dakota Wind Energy Facility – 49.5 Megawatts
 
FPL Energy, LLC, a subsidiary of FPL Group (NYSE:FPL) has obtained approval for the construction of a 49.5 megawatt energy center in North Dakota. Called the Wilton Wind Energy Center, the 49.5 megawatt facility will be used to supply electricity to Basin Electric Power Cooperative through a long-term contract.
 
On the 8.000 acre facility, thirty-three 1.5-megawatt wind turbines will be put into operation. They will provide enough energy to power 15,000 home equivalents.  The project, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2005, is part of the over 300 megawatts of new wind projects FPL has engaged in this year. Representing the speed in which wind energy facilities can be built, all of the new wind energy facilities are expected to be in commercial operation by the end of the year.
 
FPL is a major producer of energy. The company repots annual revenues of over $10 billion from operations in natural gas, wind, solar, hydroelectric and nuclear energy.

Community Energy, Inc. (CEI) has closed $50 million in funding for the construction of wind energy generation facilities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In Pennsylvania the funding will be used for the Bear Creek wind farm. That farm, to be equipped with the largest turbines installed in the United States so far, will include 12 wind turbines rated at 2 Megawatts each. The 2 megawatt turbines will be supplied by Gamesa Eolica of Spain. Funds for Bear Creek were provided by the Sustainable Development Fund, which includes the Sustainable Energy Fund of Central Eastern Pennsylvania, the West Penn Power Sustainable Energy Fund, the Penelec Sustainable Energy Fund and the Metropolitan Edison Sustainable Energy Fund.
 
The New Jersey wind farm, called the Jersey-Atlantic wind farm will be equipped with five turbines rated at 1.5 megawatts each. Those turbines, supplied by General Electric, are to form New Jersey’s first commercial scale wind project and the first United States coastal wind farm.
 
Community Energy, Inc., a major wind energy producer, reports wind energy sales of over 3 billion kilowatt-hours.

Wind Power Gains Speed with Schneider Power $550 Million Manitoba Wind Project
 
Schneider Power  has begun the first phase of development of its wind energy generation facility in Manitoba. The first phase is a 60 megawatt facility capable of generating 160,000 megawatt hours of electricity a year, or approximately 21,000 home-energy equivalents. Called the Hilltop Wind Farm, the project is part of  three wind farms planned by the company.
 
According to the company, the wind project has been met with a genuine acceptance in the Canadian province. "Our discussions with the Province have given us the confidence to make a strong commitment to Renewables in Manitoba," said Schneider Power's chief executive Thomas Schneider. "This is the next step in building on a proven growth strategy and it brings us closer to our goal of 1,000 MW installed by 2009 -- more than double our previous production capacity," he added.
 
Schneider Power Inc. is one of the older renewable energy companies with over 110 years in the field. The company is also a member of the United Nations Global Compact.
