Part 2 - Exhaust to Energy
 
There are several companies that have exhaust-to-energy conversion and related technology. They include Amerigon, Encore Clean Energy, Inc., GreenFuel Technologies Corporation, ISE Corporation Ormat and Powercell. Amerigon through its BSST subsidiary and several other companies are working with the Department of Energy on the exhaust-to-energy technology. Ormat and GreenFuel are in the power plant exhaust market and focus their effors on the conversion of industrial exhaust to energy. ISE has obtained rights from Encore related to the magnetic piston engine, which is a hybrid engine that has the capability to convert exhaust to energy.
 
Powercell is one of Volvo’s joint venture companies. Powercell’s product, although a fuel cell, does address the truck engine idling problem. Powercell’s fuel cell enables truckers to power air conditioners and heaters, without idling the engine. Often truckers idle engines to run air conditioners and the like when they nap.
