Fuel Additives Promise Anywhere Between 5
and 30 Percent Increases in Fuel Economy
Fuel additives, such as ethanol, also offer the potential
to further stretch your gasoline dollar. Ethanol automobiles are available and several types of engines can utilize ethanol
mixtures without modification to the engine. Judging from the growth of ethanol fuel production facilities, ethanol is expected
to become a major fuel additive that will be available at most gas stations in the coming years.
Besides standard ethanol, which offers an estimated cost
savings of about 20 percent over standard gasoline, there are also a number of other companies offering additives, which may
be able to stretch a gasoline dollar even further. Crystal Flash Energy, based in Michigan, offers soy-based gasoline, which
it claims offers up to a 5 percent increase in fuel economy. Reports out of India indicate that a fuel additive, which requires
just a few drops, has the potential to save 15 percent on heavy weight vehicles and up to 30 percent on light weight vehicles.
The company, Michale Mercantile Limited, is said to have begun marketing the product and has undergone testing verification
at major transportation agencies. Whether or not these claims
are true are yet to be seen. If true the product, called Abis Tech Mileage Maximizer, a fuel catalyst, will be everywhere
in no time at all.
The product was reportedly developed at an operating
unit of Michale Mercantile called Reliance Fire & Safety Ltd , a fire technology company. Reliability has wide range of fire fighting products, some of which are innovative and very advanced. Reliability
developed a fire fighting system gun based on water mist technology. The technique atomizes the water and air mixture to minimize
the amount of water needed to fight fires. The fire water mist gun produces water droplets with a diameter of 100 to 150 microns.
These water droplets are propelled out of the gun at supersonic velocity, according to the company.
Other companies in the fuel economy additive market include
Oxonica and BioFreindly. Oxonica, which has received funding from venture capitalists, offers a product called Envirox Fuel
Borne Catalyst, which is reported to offer fuel savings up to 10 percent.
Finally, there is Diesel Secret. This company claims
to have discovered an easy method to make your own gasoline out of used vegetable oil from restaurants. It has a kit for sale,
that is said to give one the keys to 46 cents gallon of gas. Well, that may be even a cheaper method than what some fuel conscience,
fearless Europeans are doing – pouring sunflower seed oil straight into their diesel engines gas tanks.
But perhaps what the news forgot to report is that these
Europeans may have retrofitted their autos for sunflower seed oil. Hybrid Fuel Systems is one company that has developed retrofit
systems to convert diesel engines to non-petroleum based products.
