Fifty Ways to Cut Automotive Fuel Costs
Doubling Your Gas Mileage
A Nine Part Series

Navigation Software – Savings for Business Car Fleets and Individuals
Tool
Navigation software that informs drivers of congested
roads and the shortest routes is another way for the individual, taxi cab drivers and large scale service and distribution
fleets, such as chauffeurs and delivery trucks, to save on gas mileage. Another trend related to navigation software, is driver
behavioral monitoring. This type of software monitors the speed of the vehicle, sudden stopping and fast acceleration. All
wired to the supervisor at headquarters, it can be used to train gas-saving driving habits into employees.
There is also the possibility that eventually drivers
will be able to ask their navigation machine the location of the gas station with the lowest price gasoline on the travel
route. Such a feature could save anywhere from 5 to 10 percent on gasoline costs.
Companies involved in the navigation and vehicle monitoring
market include Remote Dynamics, Inc. (NASDAQ: REDI), and @Road(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:ARDI). @Road, at this point, doesn’t
appear to have any trouble gathering customers. Its recent customer wins in the transportation and distribution industry include
Beacon Roofing Supply, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Builders Material Transport, Inc., Kleenco Construction, One Transportation Services,
Inc. and Reliable Wholesale Lumber, Inc.
@Road, which refers to its products as of Mobile Resource
Management (MRM) and intelligent field service automation solutions, recently linked with Cingular Wireless to further the
functionality of its product and enhance the marketing of its navigation software.
