LGD Names Its FMM-Free OLED Technology FLiPP

On July 29, LG Display (LGD) filed for trademark registration for **FLiPP**, its next-generation OLED technology under development. This technology adopts a photolithography process to replace Fine Metal Masks (FMM) for RGB sub-pixel patterning. The industry currently commonly refers to technologies of this type by names such as Japan’s JDI eLEAP or Visionox ViP.

According to sources, LGD submitted the trademark application for FLiPP to the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) in May 2025, one year ahead of the public announcement, and has simultaneously rolled out trademark filings in the European Union, India, Japan, Vietnam and other regions.
