LGD Resumes Ordering OLED Equipment After Two-Year Hiatus

November 28 News: According to South Korean media, LGD has started purchasing equipment for its Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) factories after a two-year gap.

Industry sources reported on the 27th that LGD has initiated equipment orders for the AP4 production line of its OLED factory located in Paju, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Currently, companies including DMS, ICD, and Top Run AP Solution have secured related equipment contracts.

This marks LGD’s resumption of OLED investments after a two-year pause. It is understood that the AP4 production line being expanded by LGD will produce 6th-generation OLED substrates in sizes of 1500mm and 1850mm. Prior to this, LGD completed the expansion investment of the AP4 factory by the end of 2023, increasing the monthly production capacity of 6th-generation substrates from 30,000 units to 45,000 units. Through this new round of investment, LGD plans to add another 15,000 units, aiming to raise the monthly output of 6th-generation OLED substrates to 60,000 units by the second half of next year.

Reports indicate that as LGD begins procuring equipment for the OLED factory expansion, its partners are growing increasingly optimistic about boosting their performance through supply contracts.

In addition to the aforementioned companies (DMS, ICD, Top Run AP Solution) that have already obtained equipment orders, it is expected that firms such as Avaco and Narae Nanotech will also have opportunities to supply relevant equipment.

Industry insiders note that LGD has gradually returned to a stable profitability trajectory, paving the way for new investment plans. Key drivers include the impending end of the depreciation period for its OLED production lines, expanded sales of high-priced OLED products, the sale of its LCD factory in Guangzhou, and personnel adjustments. As previously reported by South Korean media, LGD announced a 1.26 trillion won investment in new OLED technologies in June this year. At the time, a relevant LGD official stated that this investment aims to proactively address the growing global demand for OLEDs in the display market, with plans to deliver differentiated value to customers through the development of high-end products.

Financial results show that LGD recorded consolidated revenue of 6.957 trillion won and an operating profit of 431 billion won in the third quarter of 2025, with the operating profit increasing by 2% year-on-year and successfully turning around from a loss to a profit.
