Peak Brightness of 1,600 Nits! Samsung Unveils Brightest Laptop OLED Panel and Supplies to Multiple PC Makers

News dated July 20: Samsung Display announced it has begun supplying tandem OLED panels for laptops compliant with the new VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) certification standard DisplayHDR True Black 1400 to PC manufacturers worldwide.

True Black 1400 represents the highest certification standard for OLED panels available today. Compared with the previous-generation True Black 1000, its brightness requirement has been raised by 40%. The certification mandates a peak brightness of 1,400 nits at a 10% window test, while black luminance is controlled below 0.0005 nits, delivering vivid highlights and pure, haze-free dark scenes.

 

The newly launched tandem OLED laptop panel from Samsung Display achieves a maximum panel-level brightness of 1,600 nits — over 40% higher than the 1,100 nits of conventional single-stack OLED panels. This marks the highest brightness level among commercially available laptop OLED panels.

 

Samsung Display explained that the panel adopts a two-stack tandem light-emitting structure. It can deliver higher brightness under identical current, or reduce stress on the light-emitting layers at the same brightness level to extend operational lifespan.

 

Samsung Display will showcase this tandem OLED laptop panel at K-Display 2026, the Korea Display Industry Exhibition, held at COEX in Seoul, South Korea from July 22 to 24.

 

Lenovo’s laptop Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition 11th Gen, equipped with this panel, obtained True Black 1400 certification on the 8th of this month. In addition, key customers including ASUS, Dell and MSI plan to launch True Black 1400-certified products featuring Samsung Display panels between the second half of this year and next year.
